Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia, an Italian leader in the production of fine yarns for top-quality knitwear, has announced that this year the company is sponsoring Kingston School of Art University and its student Giulia Grigolon in the Feel the Yarn 2018 international competition for future knitwear designers, organised by CPF Consorzio Promozione Filati.
“Knitwear is a growing discipline at Kingston University, with investment in technology that is inspiring the students,” said Samantha Elliott, Principal Lecturer Kingston University.
“We are thrilled to be exhibiting at such a prestigious event, helping to put Kingston knit on a global platform. The students have embraced the brief and used the yarn qualities to inspire silhouette, colour and texture. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to learn from the spinners and the industry professionals involved in the project, preparing them for their first graduate placements.”
The contest for young creative artists has reached its ninth edition and is gaining more and more importance in the world of yarns and knitwear. Once a year, students from the best fashion schools all around the world are invited in Italy for a short training programme on materials and textile processes.
This edition of Pitti Filati, which opens its doors to the international audience in Florence, tomorrow, includes 26 students from the most prestigious international fashion institutes with new entries, such as Denmark and Israel, the students will be selected by a qualified jury with their knitted creations.
The theme chosen for the Fall Winter 2019-20 season project was Hybridation to underline the changing times of a multicentric world and promote free open expression to the exclusivity of cultures, people, nature and technology.
“Feel the Yarn is an excellent platform where to showcase unique knitwear items and give fashion design students the chance of showing their creativity. But it is also an amazing opportunity to build the global network between knitwear industry and fashion education. We do believe Feel the yarn is the best way to build this kind of relationship thanks to the professionalism and enthusiasm that animate this project,” commented Lan Lan, Lecturer and International department secretary of SFAE.
