Pitti Filati, the leading yarn show, has once again been confirmed as the most important rendezvous for the big names in fashion and the best international knitting mills – Pitti Filati 86 was an edition marked by growth on all fronts that once again expresses the great research and innovation of the best yarn manufacturers in the world, at the cutting edge also in terms of sustainability, organisers say.

“The total number of buyers reached 4,400, the foreign contingent acted as a driving force (+3%) with positive performances from United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, United States, Japan, Switzerland and Turkey,” Pitti Immagine said.

“The comments and feedback we collected from exhibitors and buyers are all positive,” said Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine. “And they describe a Pitti Filati where work was carried out in the stands with great dynamism in order to present and study our companies’ new collections, 136 at this edition.”

“As usual a very high level of research and creativity was registered, a strong awareness of market demands and, at the same time, of the most sustainable production processes, a sphere in which the preeminent yarn manufacturers are always pioneers.  The phase the industry is currently going through is certainly not a very brilliant one: there are evident unknowns linked to the tracing of raw materials, a critical issue for exports on some markets, but we clearly saw a desire among all the participating companies to respond in the best way possible to the difficulties of today’s economic situation.”

“It was a wonderful edition of Pitti Filati also in terms of the numbers and, above all, with regard to the quality of the attendance,” continued Agostino Poletto, general manager. “Which is best expressed by the list of the buyers present – all the most important knitting mills were there, the style bureaus of the big maisons and the top players in global fashion.”

“For our part we are trying to make the fair increasingly exciting and filled with inputs, and we are also working on the aspects connected with production, new trends and market services.  As usual the new Spazio Ricerca Yarns United, curated by Angelo Figus and Nicola Miller, was very highly acclaimed. It has now become an unmissable appointment for creatives from all fields who want inspiration that is fresh and at the same time, very concrete.”

“We are also increasingly receiving very positive feedback on the quality knitting mills section, Knitclub, the new CUSTOMEASY areas dedicated to customization applied to the world of luxury knitwear, and SUSTAINABLE focusing on the multiple facets of sustainable production.  And we were very pleased to once again be able to view the incredible final works of the students on the Master’s course in “Creative Knitwear Design” of the Accademia Costume e Moda and Modateca Deanna showcased at the catwalk show in the Fortezza: we witnessed a wave of creativity, passion and talent that was very comforting.”

Pitti Filati 86 (Florence, 22-24 January 2020) registered a slight rise in attendance for both Italy and for the international markets.  Among the foreign buyers (around 1800, +3%), the best attendances came from United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, United States, Japan, Switzerland and Turkey.

Overall, around 4,400 buyers attended from over 50 foreign countries. United Kingdom was confirmed as leading the ranking of the first 15 foreign countries, followed by France, Germany, Russia, United States, Switzerland, Japan, Turkey, Spain, China, Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, South Korea and Denmark.
