House of Sustainability, a UK made, ethically run, zero-waste, sustainable knitwear brand launches.
New for AW21, House of Sustainability is a slow-fashion brand that combines design, ethics, modern technology, and production all under one physical roof, to create carefully considered clothing for lovers of luxury knitwear.
House of Sustainability knitwear is designed and made in Leicester in the heart of the UK at the brand’s ethically run, family-owned factory. According to the brand, each piece is knitted from the finest, natural sustainable yarns with zero waste, to minimise environmental impact and make the planet cleaner for future generations.
© House of SustainabilityFeaturing an initial, exquisitely designed capsule collection of ‘Melton’ and ‘Bradgate’ men’s jumpers and ‘Charnwood’ and ‘Rutland’ women’s jumpers, each piece is knitted from 100% natural, sustainable yarns and created with a zero-waste, sustainable production process. The pieces are Made in England and 3D knitted and seam-free for added longevity, fit and comfort and covered by the company’s ‘Good Life’ Guarantee which aims to extend the life of its knitwear.
House of Sustainability’s ‘Bradgate’ and ‘Rutland’ jumpers are knitted from 100% British Wool sourced from Blue Faced Leicester and Masham Sheep. Going from fleece to finished yarn in less than 50 miles, this yarn has a low carbon footprint, very high levels of animal welfare and supports British Farmers and UK manufacturing.
In contrast, but still maintaining the same sustainable credentials, ‘Melton’ and ‘Charnwood’ jumpers are knitted from a luxurious blend of 50% Recycled Cashmere and 50% Merino Wool certified by the GRS (Global Recycle Standard) and RWS (Responsible Wool Standard). This ensures that the yarn comes from farms managed according to strict criteria oriented to the welfare of animals and to the reduction of environmental impact.
In addition to these classic styles, the brand is also proud to launch a range of super-soft recycled cashmere and merino wool accessories. These include ‘Kirby’ and ‘Carlton’ men’s beanie hats and ‘Grace’ and ‘Saffron’ women’s beanie hats. ‘Swithland’ men’s and ‘Heather’ women’s scarves complete the luxurious collection.
As supporters of a circular economy, each carefully crafted piece comes with a ‘Good Life Guarantee’ meaning that if at any time there is an issue with a House of Sustainability garment, the brand will do its very best to fix it. In the event that a garment is beyond repair, it will be recycled and made into eco-friendly underlay.
Born out of nearly 35 years’ experience of making the finest quality garments for luxury knitwear labels, this forward-thinking brand uses superior materials and state of the art manufacturing techniques to create small, expertly managed runs of high-quality, long- lasting garments.
Snahal Patel, House of Sustainability’s founder and owner commented: “The quality and source of our yarn is key to what makes House of Sustainability knitwear so special, sustainable, and long-lasting. Using all-natural fibres, we hand-select from only the best yarn mills that share our vision and values.”
At a time where its hometown has had negative press surrounding some of its garment factories, House of Sustainability hopes to shift the focus to a majority of factories in Leicester where workers are treated and paid well and take pride in the products they create.
Recently awarded SEDEX certification, House of Sustainability says it is proud of its status as a business that operates responsibly and sustainably, protects its workers and sources ethically.
“Luxury shouldn’t cost the earth,” the brand concludes.
