New standalone software streamlines flat knitting programming and design.
Shima Seiki has unveiled its latest software innovation, SDS KnitPaint-Online, extending the reach of its proven knitting programming technology beyond its traditional design systems. This newly released standalone solution makes the company’s renowned KnitPaint software accessible as a flexible desktop or laptop installation, offering knitwear professionals greater mobility and versatility.
Previously available only within Shima Seiki’s SDS-ONE APEX series, the KnitPaint tool now comes enhanced with added features for planning, design and virtual verification. The online version includes the original KnitPaint functions, allowing users to select styles, input dimensions and automatically generate knitting data. These processes are supported by built-in style-specific knitting expertise, improving accuracy and production efficiency.
SDS KnitPaint-Online also introduces Virtual knit, which enables realistic previews of finished products through loop simulation. Combined with 3D visualisation via Knitting Viewer and the error-checking Knitting Assist tool, the software helps users reduce lead times by identifying issues before machine programming begins.
For collar knitting, a specialised version – SDS KnitPaint-Online Collar – is also available. It is tailored for Shima Seiki’s N.SSR072 collar knitting machine and includes streamlined design and programming capabilities suited to that specific format.
The new software can be installed on both desktops and laptops, offering full functionality whether users are at the workplace or working remotely. This flexibility makes it easier for designers and technicians to bring their ideas to life anytime, anywhere.
The official release date for both SDS KnitPaint-Online and SDS KnitPaint-Online Collar is 9 June 2025.
